Artist Linda Brownlee is known for her love of drawing Dundee. Linda graduated in Textile Design from Glasgow School of Art in her early years prior to becoming a nurse.
Linda has enjoyed resuming her career as an artist now that she has retired from a 38 year career in the health service and can often be seen cycling around Dundee choosing the next view to depict.
Linda rearranges the beautiful buildings slightly so that the viewer recognises the setting but perhaps its not quite just as visible in real life. The Law in the background or the Tay bridges in the foreground add the identifiable element that makes her work so easy to identify.
Linda’s uses carefully selected colours and text torn from magazines to create a patchwork of colour on which to make a line drawing. This helps her choose a unique palette and set out the composition sticking down the selected pieces before she starts to draw and also means her work is very portable.
Linda finds that drawing out in the open from her trike or set up in coffee shops offers a more sociable artist life as people often stop to chat.
